Description: A wonderful tree for screening due to its aggressive growth rate and branching structure. The Leyland Cypress can be sheared back easily on lower branches to promote more growth near the top. Commonly used for screening second-story views due to its lateral branching structure at the top. Shearing this tree lower accelerates the growth of the lateral branches in the top, giving better second-story screening for the height of the tree than nearly any other evergreen. This is why the Leyland Cypress is the most widely used tree for screening in landscapes in the Pacific Northwest. Also, see its relatives, the Castewellan Leyland Cypress (link) and the Silver Dust Leyland Cypress (link) for more colorful options.
